Repairs to Wall Funded by St. Mary’s Chapter
Pedestrians entering the Memorial Garden from Church Street via St. Mary’s Memorial Walkway may have noticed something a little different since March. The wall separating the church from our former rectory at 108 W. Church Street had been in serious need of repair, with missing bricks and mortar on both sides. The entire wall is the property of All Saints’ Church solely. At a presentation to St. Mary’s Chapter in 2022 the former chairperson of the Buildings & Grounds Committee, Mary Beth Coker, said that the wall needed repair and the church would be grateful if St. Mary’s could help provide needed funds, which she estimated to be between $15,000 to $20,000 at that time.
Junior Warden Mark Walker secured a quote from Ceresville Masonry in the final months of 2022 and arranged to have to work performed March 2023 with funding from St. Mary’s. The Chapter was able to use revenue generated from previous years’ fundraising projects (the annual Book Sale and annual Holiday Greens Sale) and the more recent Candlemas Festival to pay the total expenses of $17,560.
St. Mary’s Chapter is a group joined by fellowship at All Saints’ Episcopal Church who use their time, talents, and treasure for the benefit of the church property and special projects in the community. We meet on the first Mondays of most months during the program year for a luncheon meeting that usually features a guest speaker. For information about joining St. Mary’s Chapter contact 2nd Vice President June Miller.
