Local GETTING AHEAD program needs meals!
It’s Back! The wonderful program that “helps low-income families move from dependency to self‐sufficiency through education, self‐assessment, and mentoring experience. The participants will take a look at their current situation and plan for the future all while building relationships, setting goals, and resources to “get ahead”.” This program serves our local community members who generally would be considered our “working poor.”
We had to cancel the summer session due to low attendance, but thanks to the sponsor organizations, (The Religious Coalition of Emergency Human Needs, The Seton Center, Inc., the Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Baltimore Council, and Steadfast – Standing Firm Against Youth Homelessness, Inc.) they are at capacity and even have a waiting list for the Spring course!
Here’s where we can help. The program will run for 16 sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and they need our help with:
–Providing meals for the Investigators (participants) Facilitators and any childcare recipients (so that the Investigators don’t have to worry about childcare while participating)
–Plating the meals/serving the Investigators (no buffet and following strict CDC protocol guidelines)
–Packing up any extra food for the Investigators to take home
This week, Katy Ackland and Jill Browning will provide the meals, and we are looking for help with meals beginning Tuesday, October 4th, and every Tuesday and Thursday thereafter.
Once again, I am requesting various ministries, families, or other groups of our All Saints community to coordinate amongst their groups to provide the above. I hope that as you read this you will think about offering to pick up drinks, or prepare an entree, side dish, salad, dessert, or snacks for these adults and a few children. Last fall and this summer (until the program was cancelled) we had wonderful participation from many various groups and committees who coordinated together to provide a meal, and the outpouring of this support was so greatly appreciated by the participants (Investigators) and the local non-profits running this program in Frederick.
Please call/text or email me (jbrow1429@gmail.com or 301-639-9556) or Katy (kackland921@aol.com) for more information. Ministry leaders – be on the lookout for a call or email from me soon to request your team’s help with this important new opportunity to help our community! If you’re new and want to engage in this outreach, just contact me. Can’t wait to hear from you! Thanks in advance for your support.
