Caring for Our Historic Space

On Sunday, September 26, we commissioned a team to lead us in the process of exploring how we can renovate our 1855 building. As we have cared for our Historic Church Sanctuary and Undercroft over the years, we have accumulated a growing list of deferred maintenance items. This summer our elected Vestry decided that we can wait no longer.

Given the scope of need, we want to be thoughtful, prayerful, and intentional about these repairs. Therefore, Vestry members Hilary Pettigrew, Michael King, and Jim Filson were tasked to create a team to lead us in this intentional process. Steve Crum, Jody Deveney, Clarence Harper, and Rixey Hoult have joined Hilary, Michael, and Jim to round out the team. There are still others that are serving in a consultant role, and, of course, the team will engage the congregation in conversation as well.

Over the next several months you will hear from the Historic Church Renovations Team — providing updates, seeking input, and fostering conversation. I ask that throughout this process we each take a posture of curiosity instead of accusation, grace instead of judgement, and imagination instead of rigidity. Pray for the team, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us all as we explore how our historic building can best support the mission and many ministries of All Saints’.

The team is now tasked to share with us a timeline and overview of the process, how we can stay plugged into their progress, and ultimately the ‘why now’ behind this project. If you have any questions along the way, please reach out to the team’s co-chairs Hilary Pettigrew and Steve Crum.
