An Update from our Historic Church Renovations Team

Dear Fellow All Saints’ Parishioners,

Your vestry has commissioned a team to explore the condition of our church building and charged us with the following mission:

… to re-imagine the Historic Church building considering renovations needed to improve the utility and hospitality of the spaces within the context of a historic Gothic Revival Episcopal Church in Frederick, MD.

Your renovation team consists of the following parishioners: Stephen Crum, Co-Chair; Hillary Pettigrew, Co-Chair; Jody Deveney; Jim Filson; Clarence Harper; Rixey Hoult; Michael King; and Linda Procter, Chaplain.

The team will also call on staff members and parishioners who have experience or expertise in the areas we will be examining.

To prepare ourselves for our work, we have had two tours of the church areas that need to be repaired or renewed. The tours were led by Jay Colley, the All Saints’ Facility Manager.  To gather more information, we have also had representatives from three major church restoration companies (Keck, New Holland, and Frederick and Emily) visit All Saints’ to look at the Historic Church and share their ideas of “what could be.”  We have also found a historical paint specialist who could assist with determining original colors.

We have also held a Zoom meeting with Alyssia Turner, our Parish Administrator, and Nancy McArthur, our Sexton, to find out areas they believe need our attention as we begin our work.

Your team’s goal is to meet the needs of the present by ensuring that the building’s structure remains strong and serviceable and prepare the building to meet the needs of future generations of All Saints’ parishioners.

Our commitment to you is that we will remain accessible during the entire process to keep you informed about our work.  In addition to bi-weekly written updates on the work of the committee, we will schedule both Zoom and in-person meetings (Covid status permitting) throughout the committee’s working life. The committee’s point of contact for questions or to provide information will be the co-chairs, Hillary Pettigrew [ hilarypetti@gmail.com] and Steven Crum [secrum91@gmail.com] .  We plan to have a member of the team available to be asked questions and receive your suggestions after all 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. services in November and December. The team members will be available in the Lower Gathering Space.

We would also like to invite you to special listening sessions on Sunday, Nov. 21 after both the 8am and 10 am services to meet with the congregation for our first “Listen and Learn” sessions. We look forward to hearing your ideas! We are spending this month gathering information and thoughts from all concerned, as we work to determine how we should best serve the All Saints’ community of the future.

We ask for your understanding, assistance, and prayers as we move forward in this exciting, demanding, and hopeful venture.
